It was the first year we were married. My husband had lost his job right before the wedding so we were living on unemployment and I wasn’t expecting anything.
Hubby suggested we leave our 6 yr-old at my grandmother’s to play with my cousin and we would take a ride. We ended up at WoolWorth’s, where we each got a cup of coffee and a grilled cheese sandwich to split.
We sat there and talked and laughed until the woman at the snack bar had cleaned every table and turned the chairs upside down on all of them. She finally blinked the lights to get our attention and we got up and left.
The next day everybody was sharing their Valentine stories and I got the funniest looks when I shared my story about a cup of coffee and splitting a grilled cheese sandwich but that’s both of our favorite Valentine memory.
